Solar PV and energy storage projects can be highly rewarding for a business if designed and installed appropriately, but it is a technical arena and it only those who carefully manage the specifications will reap the benefits
Most building owners and operators will only commission one or two renewable energy or energy storage installation projects for their site, while facility managers and procurement officers running a portfolio of properties will also be dealing with a wide range of issues. Meanwhile, PV is a specialist subject with sometimes non-intuitive rules. Therefore, it often pays to obtain the advice of an expert who can set out your technical requirements properly, compare potential suppliers and make sure you get what was contracted for.
At CEE, we can act as your technical advocate through the entire tender process, from initial concept to project handover and operation. This service is a common pairing with a Feasibility Study, particularly for large commercial projects, but they can be instructed separately.
In the pre-tender stage we will work with you to determine your key needs. If requested we can draw up a sample design, but either way we will then draft a technical specification that can be built into your tender process.
We can the review each bid you recieved for compliance with the specification. It is not uncommon for installers to offer variants on the technical specification, and we can advise on whether these are in your interest or not. Performance estimates are highly dependent upon the initial input parameters, and we recommend running third party simulations to determine which proposal works best for you. Following award of contract, we can also physically review the installation during or post-construction, to ensure that it meets standards and will work as expected. We do recommend that clients working on projects greater than 50kW obtain grid connection consent in parallel with the tendering process. Grid consents can take some time, and it may be that export is limited from your site which can affect the design. However, while many, if not all, installers will offer this for free, if you take this up you will either give one installer a commercial advantage for bidding, or you will have to wait until after award of contract to start the process. We can offer grid connection studies on request.
