Description
We are a small team and your work will be extremely varied, spanning multiple disciplines as we work to support our diverse clients with their sustainable energy projects; simply put, your role will be to apply your professional engineering skills to whichever challenges arise.
You will be working on projects at all stages of their development. Depending on our clients’ needs, this may include:
You will be required to gain, maintain and continuously improve a working knowledge of all aspects of energy park design. Detailed design projects will span multiple disciplines, including masterplanning, equipment selection, 1500V DC power wiring, HV and LV AC circuits, SCADA and networking systems, earthing, protection, auxiliary supplies & services and others. You will be producing calculations, creating designs and drawings, performing simulations, and undertaking surveys; you will also need the capability, experience and confidence to review and challenge designs by others.
From time to time, challenges will arise that are new to you or the Company; you will be able to find the optimal solution through research and application of theory and experience, document and defend the conclusion.
You must be proficient with MS Office and AutoCAD packages, and you will have fluent written and oral communication skills in English. You will have degree-level qualifications in a relevant discipline and be able to demonstrate a theoretical and practical understanding of electrical system design and installation with at least 5 years’ industrial design experience in related fields including installations in the UK. We do have projects overseas so experience of international standards would be an advantage.
Your job will involve regularly using specialist CAD packages including PVSyst, Amtech ProDesign and others; in-house training will be available but prior knowledge will be a distinct advantage. As a professional engineer, however, you will be expected to have a sound theoretical background and in many cases you will need carry out your own calculations, using a tool appropriate to the task, from a calculator to programming bespoke code. You will also be expected to compose formal written reports of your findings.
While you may not regularly work on site, previous project-management or construction experience would be an advantage. The role is mostly desk-based but will involve surveys and site meetings, and you will be required to travel. Remote working can be considered for the right candidate.
We will expect you to develop professionally while you work with us, and we will encourage you to work towards professional accreditation (e.g. MIET, CEng). In return, we will offer you a chance to work on a varied range of solar projects, from simulating scenarios for a legal report to producing detailed designs for some of the larger solar and energy storage parks in the UK and abroad. Our clients are building some of the largest solar and battery projects in the UK and have a growing pipeline of projects overseas. This is an opportunity to work with them and to join a growing business.
You will be working on projects at all stages of their development. Depending on our clients’ needs, this may include:
- Solar park yield simulation and optimisation
- Grid connection studies
- Feasibility studies
- Detailed designs for construction
- Conducting office and site meetings
- Surveying and inspecting prospective sites, in-build works and operating installations
- Providing skilled technical support and investigating issues
- Composing reports
- Design and peer reviews
- Design risk analysis and other CDM or safety-in-design activities
